“Over 150 photos,” a woman whispered, pointing at the Milford Heritage Photo Exhibition tent. The Milford Heritage Photo Exhibition, part of the Auckland Heritage Festival, offered a glimpse into Milford’s past. The 2015 exhibition showcased a remarkable collection at the Milford Reserve on Craig Road. Over 150 photographs, many from local family collections, brought Milford’s history to life. Even the original decorative shields from Ye Olde Pirate Shippe were on display. The Milford Heritage Photo Exhibition was more than just pictures. It was a community celebration. There was music, memories, and fun. From the North Shore Brass Band Academy to the Auckland Symphony Orchestra String Quartet, music filled the marquee. Attendees could share their own Milford stories at the oral history booth. Children played old-fashioned games organized by the Takapuna North Community Trust. There were even toys for pre-schoolers. A coffee and ice cream caravan kept everyone refreshed. The Milford Residents Association and the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board made this free event possible. It truly was an afternoon of history, community, and shared experiences at the Milford Heritage Photo Exhibition.
