The Hardin Building, a grand Lombard-Romanesque structure, stands proudly on the Midwestern State University campus. This impressive building, with its lofty bell tower, is a testament to the university’s rich history and architectural legacy. Midwestern State University, or MSU Texas, is a public university in Wichita Falls. As you stroll along the campus, you can sense the vibrant energy of a community of students and faculty. It’s hard to imagine that the university began as a small junior college occupying a high school building in 1922. It has expanded in size and stature over the years from a local junior college to a member of the Texas Tech University System. Originally named Wichita Falls Junior College, it was renamed Hardin Junior College after a local couple. The university is known for its various academic programs, but did you know that back in 1946, it took a bold step by adding junior and senior years, transforming it into Hardin College? The university’s name has changed several times throughout the years, reflecting the growth and expansion of its mission. In 1950, the name was changed to Midwestern University. The university gained further recognition by becoming a member of the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in 1948. And, just a few years later in 1959, it added a graduate school. The college officially became Midwestern State University in 1975. Today, the university stands as a beacon of knowledge and dynamism, drawing students and faculty from across the state.
