These zones are mandated by the FAA to prevent injuries should an aircraft overshoot the runway. Friends of Bachman Lake saw potential in this unused space. They advocated for a park, understanding the need for green space in the neighborhood. Initially, the airport was hesitant. The community persisted, emphasizing the benefits of a park over a barren strip of land. Midway Manor Park stands as a testament to their efforts.
