Gazing at Metropolis, have you ever wondered about its unique shape? Metropolis dominates the Sluseholmen peninsula. Its futuristic, blue form resembles a supernatural creature. The building rises from a man-made peninsula. It stands in stark contrast to the surrounding housing. This singularity makes Metropolis stand out. Its 44 exclusive apartments are highly sought after in Copenhagen. The design of Metropolis takes inspiration from several sources. These include Copenhagen’s cruise liners, the harbor’s old silos, and Knippels Bridge’s copper towers. English and Danish architects collaborated on the clover-shaped design. Residents enter through one of four atriums. Their apartments extend towards curved balconies. These balconies offer stunning views of Sydhavnen and the city. Pre-cast fiber concrete slabs frame the building. These slabs contain marble powder, creating a shimmering, maritime blue facade. The facade has aged to resemble a mussel shell. Undulating, ceiling-high windows and balconies are nestled within, protected from the elements. The facade also features oval porthole windows. These are a nod to the area’s maritime heritage and thriving waterside culture. Metropolis truly is a unique architectural gem in Copenhagen.
