Established in 1882 by the Methodist Church of Australasia, Methodist Ladies’ College has a rich history. Methodist Ladies’ College began as a premier institution for girls’ education. The founders aimed to rival the quality of education offered to boys elsewhere. Methodist Ladies’ College quickly drew students from across Australia. The college sits on 15 acres. It started much smaller, with only 3 acres. The original 1882 building and its 1885 tower still stand. They face Barkers Road, alongside the newer 1994 music school. The 1959 chapel marks the main entrance, while the 1974 resource center fronts Glenferrie Road. Methodist Ladies’ College was a pioneer. In 1990, it became the first school globally to provide laptops for students from Year 5 to 12. Just a year later, the Marshmead campus opened. This outdoor education campus offers Year 9 students an immersive eight-week experience. Today, Methodist Ladies’ College offers a wide curriculum. Students can pursue the Victorian Certificate of Education, Vocational Education Training courses, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The school boasts one of the largest VCE subject selections in the state. Its IB program consistently places students among the top achievers worldwide. Methodist Ladies’ College has achieved numerous premierships across a wide range of sports, from swimming and athletics to football and hockey. The music program thrives, with various instrumental departments, ensembles, and a dedicated auditorium. Speech and drama are offered from the early years, culminating in theatre arts and drama at the VCE and IB levels.
