Have you ever wondered what a “Merwyn” is? Right here, in Triangle Park, stands a testament to the power of community and imagination. The Merwyn Sculpture, a vibrant and whimsical creature seemingly bursting from the ground, is the creation of artist Marjorie Pitz. Commissioned as part of the Seward Gateway project, Merwyn was designed with a specific purpose in mind: to capture the hearts and minds of children. Pitz, known for her focus on public spaces, wanted to create something playful, something that would spark a child’s imagination. What started as a sculpture quickly evolved into a community effort. When the Seward Neighborhood Group learned about Merwyn, they envisioned a revitalized Triangle Park to complement this unique artwork. Despite initial funding challenges, the community’s dedication never wavered. Their persistence paid off, and today, Merwyn stands proudly at the heart of a redesigned Triangle Park, a testament to the enduring spirit of collaboration and creativity.
