The name change to Meridian High School in 2015 was a deliberate move. The school aimed to shed any negative preconceptions associated with its previous identities. The new name, inspired by its unique geographical feature, signifies a fresh start and a focus on the future. The school, with a capacity for 960 students, currently educates around 525 pupils aged 11 to 18. It became an academy in 2013. While the Prime Meridian provides a captivating tale, Meridian High School itself offers a robust education. A 2023 Ofsted inspection rated the school “Good” in various areas, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
