Amidst the vibrant tapestry of Palma de Mallorca, discover the bustling heart of Mercat de Pere Garau. This isn’t just a market; it’s a living, breathing testament to the city’s rich history and cultural heritage. Mercat de Pere Garau first opened its doors in 1943, evolving from a humble marketplace to a sprawling 1,000 square meter emporium. The market underwent a significant renovation in 1999, further solidifying its place as a cornerstone of the community. Mercat de Pere Garau stands as one of Palma’s largest and most beloved markets, rivaled only by the iconic Olivar Market. Step inside and be greeted by a symphony of sights and sounds. Over 100 vendors proudly display their wares, offering a kaleidoscope of fresh, local produce, artisanal goods, and traditional delicacies. From the freshest fish and finest cuts of meat to vibrant fruits and vegetables, Mercat de Pere Garau is a feast for the senses. But the experience doesn’t end within the market walls. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the energy spills out onto the surrounding streets as an outdoor market takes over. More than 200 additional stalls pop up, creating a vibrant tapestry of textiles, clothing, and unique treasures. This outdoor market sets Mercat de Pere Garau apart, making it the only market in Palma where you can find live animals for sale. Mercat de Pere Garau is nestled in the heart of the Pere Garau neighborhood, a vibrant commercial hub just a stone’s throw from the bustling Aragon Street. The market’s location makes it easily accessible, with most streets in the neighborhood converging towards its vibrant center. While parking can be a challenge, the surrounding area offers ample parking options. The market keeps its doors open throughout the week, catering to both early birds and those who prefer a more leisurely shopping experience. It opens at 6:00 a.m. every day. Closing times vary, offering flexibility for all schedules: 2:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Mercat de Pere Garau isn’t just a market; it’s a destination. It is a place where locals and visitors alike gather to experience the authentic heart of Palma. Come, immerse yourself in the vibrant energy, and discover the treasures that await within its bustling walls.
