“Is there a connection between the Impasse des Amazones and the mythical warrior women?” a curious voice piped up from the back of our group. That’s a great question and it brings us to the heart of our next stop, the Impasse des Amazones. Now, while this quiet cul-de-sac nestled in Rueil-Malmaison might not be home to fierce female warriors, its name does evoke images of those legendary figures from Greek mythology. The Amazons, as you might know, were a tribe of formidable women warriors who lived independently, challenging the patriarchal norms of ancient Greece. Sadly, no direct link exists between this peaceful Impasse des Amazones and those fierce women. Yet, the name itself sparks the imagination. It encourages us to ponder on the enduring power of myths and how they continue to shape our perception of places, even in the bustling suburbs of modern Paris.
