From its perch on Jalan Bandar, Menara Aqabah stands tall. This isn’t just another skyscraper. It’s the beating heart of Pasir Gudang. Menara Aqabah houses the Pasir Gudang City Council, known as MBPG. This council plays a vital role in the city’s daily life. They manage everything from public health and sanitation to urban planning and economic development. Menara Aqabah isn’t just a symbol of progress. It’s a testament to Pasir Gudang’s transformation. The council itself has a fascinating history. It began as a privatized entity under Johor Corporation, the investment arm of the Johor State Government. It was the first local authority in Malaysia to be privatized. Over time, it transitioned to the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council in 2010. Then, in a momentous occasion on November 22, 2020, Pasir Gudang achieved city status. With this upgrade, the council became the Pasir Gudang City Council, taking its place in Menara Aqabah on the 19th floor. The building itself, with its 22 floors, dominates the Pasir Gudang skyline. It serves as a landmark, a beacon of the city’s growth and ambition. Within its walls, the various departments of the MBPG work tirelessly.
