Opened in 1925 Meinohama Station stands as a vital transportation hub in Fukuoka. It’s more than just a place to catch a train. Meinohama Station connects the JR Chikuhi Line and the Fukuoka City Subway’s Kuko Line. This allows seamless travel across the city. Many daily commuters rely on this efficient interchange.

Meinohama Station isn’t just a modern marvel. Its history is rich and layered. Before becoming a crucial part of Fukuoka’s public transportation the station was the eastern terminus of the Chikuhi Line. The Kitakyushu Railway opened a track in 1923. This was extended to Meinohama in 1925. The line later underwent electrification in 1983. This greatly improved its efficiency. The integration with the Fukuoka City Subway solidified its importance.

The station’s design is also noteworthy. It’s an elevated station. Two island platforms serve four tracks. This setup facilitates easy transfers between the JR and subway lines. The station building is conveniently located beneath the platforms. It houses ticket gates and other essential facilities.

Notice the station symbol. It’s a yellow yacht. This symbolizes the nearby Odo Yacht Harbor. A testament to Fukuoka’s maritime history and recreational opportunities. This small detail adds a unique charm to Meinohama Station.

Beyond the station itself the surrounding area is primarily residential. Many high-rise apartments line the streets. A bustling bus terminal in front of the station serves as another connection point for the area. From the station you can easily access the Nishi Ward Office. You can even find yourself at the Fukuoka City Yacht Harbor.

In fiscal year 2020 Meinohama Station saw a significant number of daily passengers. An average of 4690 people boarded JR trains. The Fukuoka City Subway portion of the station recorded even higher numbers. With 36269 passengers daily it is a clear reflection of its importance within Fukuoka’s transportation network. Meinohama Station a seemingly simple train station speaks volumes about the city’s history its progress and its people. It’s a quiet but impactful presence in the heart of Fukuoka.
