Nestled in the heart of Istanbul, Mehmet Zahid Kotku Camii awaits. This mosque isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a testament to a remarkable man, Mehmed Zahid Kotku. Mehmed Zahid Kotku, born in Bursa in 1897, became a prominent Islamic scholar and preacher. His life journey, marked by both war and spiritual devotion, led him to become a key figure in the Naqshbandi Sufi order. Mehmet Zahid Kotku’s teachings resonated deeply within the community. His sermons at the İskenderpaşa Mosque drew crowds, eventually giving rise to the İskenderpaşa Community. While the İskenderpaşa Mosque served as his platform, the Mehmet Zahid Kotku Camii stands as a separate tribute to his legacy. After a life dedicated to faith and teaching, Mehmed Zahid Kotku passed away on November 13, 1980. He was laid to rest in the Süleymaniye Mosque complex. His written works, ranging from “Tasavvufi Ahlak” (Sufi Ethics) to “Cennet Yolları” (Paths to Paradise), continue to inspire and guide. Mehmet Zahid Kotku Camii stands as a beacon. It reminds us of his enduring impact on the spiritual landscape of Istanbul.
