Journey with me back to the 1970s. Meadow Heights wasn’t the bustling suburb you see today. It was a blank canvas, a vision of the Housing Commission. The Commission dreamt of creating affordable housing in the Broadmeadows region. This area, known then as Broadmeadows North, was just beginning to transform. Houses were springing up, a community was taking root. But a name change was afoot. In 1975, the name “Westmeadows Heights” was proposed, a nod to the nearby Westmeadows. However, the name Meadow Heights eventually stuck. By 1982, the Commission’s role lessened. Private developers stepped in to complete the picture. Meadow Heights blossomed. Today, as you walk through Meadow Heights, you see the culmination of that vision. A vibrant community thrives here, a testament to its humble beginnings.
