Through careful planning, it includes two living roofs. It has solar panels and an excellent ventilation system. This ventilation system responds to internal temperatures. The library is a favorite place for many children. They curl up on the soft seating and get lost in a book there. The Cooking Cabin is well-used after school and during the day. Children create and bake a range of savory and sweet dishes here. The Hub is a “grown-up” seating and learning area. It is for year 5 and 6 children. The Studio lights up in a kaleidoscope of color. The sun pours through the windows. Music, singing, dance, and drama all take place here. In addition, there is a Double Decker Learning Bus. It is used as additional learning space.
The playground is enormous. It covers two tiers. Children can play outside. Learning, such as PE, can take place at the same time in perfect safety. The school has put as much thought into the playground development as it did the internal learning space. Areas of calm, creativity, and activity have been created. In the grounds is a Nature garden. Children can explore creatures in their natural habitat there. An outdoor reading garden has tee-pees and hobbit holes. These are small spaces to curl up with a book. There is a quiet area for chess lovers and those that like to draw. Children can top up their fitness skills. This is using multi-gym equipment. A stage area lets children be creative. Props and hats support the performance. There is a vegetable garden. Courgettes, tomatoes, herbs, and potatoes grow there. The children cook, taste, and devour these. A track lets children whizz around on the school scooters. There are spaces to run, jump, and skip. Children can throw and spin the diablo. They can walk on stilts, twirl ribbons and flower sticks. They race on pedlos and blow bubbles. They play stack-a-cups, football, basketball, hula, and table tennis. Mayfield is a magical place to learn and play.
The curriculum is exciting and interesting. It builds on community strengths. It celebrates unity and diversity. It recognizes the richness this provides to the school.
