“Maxhof, a slice of suburban serenity”, the tour guide whispers, her voice almost as quiet as the soft breeze that rustles through the leaves of the old trees lining the street.

The Maxhof is a quiet residential area, nestled in the southwest of Munich. It’s a far cry from the bustling, noisy crowds of the city center. This is where the Munich locals come to escape the madness and relax.

Maxhof didn’t always exist though. In 1804, a landowner named Max Anton Jägerhuber purchased the land and built a sprawling estate he named Maxhof, after himself. The estate included manicured gardens, a small park, and a grand house, all surrounded by fields and woods.

The building that housed the estate was converted into a restaurant and banquet hall in 1923. Over the years, Maxhof became a favorite gathering place for local clubs and events. In 1955, the Spaten Brewery bought the estate but tore the old structure down and rebuilt it into its current form in 1991.

Today, the Maxhof is home to a large beer garden, a popular spot for locals to gather and enjoy a cold Spaten. Maxhof remains a quaint neighborhood known for its peaceful streets, charming homes, and a legacy of a man who had a fondness for quiet living and grand estates.
