From its humble beginnings as Florence Hill Baptist Church in 1943 on Beltline Road Matthew Road Baptist Church has grown exponentially. The church relocated to its current location in Grand Prairie. This was due to a population boom in the area during the mid-1970s. A 7.5-acre plot on Matthew Road was chosen. This was a joint effort with the Dallas Baptist Association.

In February 1980 Florence Hill was reborn as Matthew Road Baptist Mission. Jim Haskell became its first pastor that August. Construction on the new building began in July 1981. It was completed by December of the same year. Matthew Road Baptist Mission officially became Matthew Road Baptist Church on July 3 1983.

The church’s growth continued into the 21st century. A preschool academy was established in 2001. This was in response to community needs. A new worship center opened in 2006. It welcomed even more people to the church family. Two schools were added in 2012. These schools provided Christian education from kindergarten to high school.
