Mastaba 1 sits mostly underground, a hidden world beneath a minimalist exterior. The name might sound familiar. It is inspired by ancient Egyptian tombs, specifically those flat-roofed structures with inward sloping sides. Jean-Pierre Raynaud, the artist behind Mastaba 1, was deeply interested in funerary monuments, those silent spaces of contemplation.
