“Did you know Masjid Sadar’s name is an acronym?” Standing before Masjid Sadar in Denpasar you might not guess its unique name holds a profound meaning. This mosque located on Jalan Tegal Wangi Gang Kenanga is more than just a place of worship. Its name Masjid Sadar is an acronym meaning “Semua Asalnya dari Allah dan Rasul” All originates from Allah and the Prophet. This insightful name reflects the mosque’s core beliefs.

Masjid Sadar’s history is woven into the fabric of Denpasar. It began as a small prayer room within an army barracks. This humble beginning eventually led to the current mosque’s construction in 1998. The transition from a small mushola to a full-fledged mosque involved a lot of effort. The founders had to lobby for the relocation of the mushola. The relocation was possible after the army barracks moved. Before the current location there was even a graveyard in front of the original prayer room. The founders decided on the name Masjid Sadar.

The congregation of Masjid Sadar consists mainly of people from the Sesetan area. Many members have lived in Bali for decades. Some have even been born here. The mosque continues to adapt to changing circumstances. For example during the Covid-19 pandemic. The mosque adapted its services. The community spirit remains strong.
