The rhythmic call to prayer echoes. It beckons you towards the Masjid Raya Cinere. This magnificent mosque stands proudly in Cinere Depok. It’s a place of spiritual solace and community.

Masjid Raya Cinere is more than just a place of worship. Its traditional Betawi architecture is unique. It features a distinctive terrace encircling the prayer hall. A touch of Middle Eastern influence is visible in its minaret and dome. The minaret stands ten meters from the west side of the main building. The dome however retains the traditional pyramidal shape.

This isn’t just any mosque. It sits on a spacious 3000 square meter plot. Part of this land is used for archery. A nod to the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad. This is a clever use of space. It combines faith with traditional activities.

The building itself is three stories tall. The ground floor is a multipurpose hall. It’s used for Friday prayers and other events. The second floor houses the main prayer hall. It’s around 400 square meters. A mezzanine level adds another 200 square meters of prayer space. In total this mosque can hold approximately 2000 worshippers. With the terraces and archery field it could accommodate even more.

The interior is simple yet elegant. The prayer hall features red patterned carpets. The altar walls are clad in grayish-white marble. Intricate stainless steel calligraphy adorns the walls. One side features the name of Allah. The other side bears the name of the Prophet Muhammad. Both are framed by eight-pointed stars.

The mihrab is a stunning feature. It’s a sizable rectangular recess. An LCD screen above displays prayer times and announcements. Unique to this mihrab is an ornate projection above. It resembles a large Quran. It’s decorated with carvings and calligraphy. It features the Shahada and the first Surah of the Quran.

Within the mihrab you’ll find more calligraphy. There’s also a prayer rug for the imam and a wooden mimbar. The mimbar is ornately carved and resembles a tiered throne.

The mosque isn’t just about prayer. It also features a food court. There’s even a kindergarten. This mosque is a vibrant center for the community. It provides a range of services beyond religious worship. Masjid Raya Cinere embodies faith and community. It stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Islam in Indonesia.
