Amidst the bustling energy of Jakarta, the Masjid Raya Al-Ittihad stands as a beacon of peace. It’s nestled within the Tebet Mas Indah complex on Tebet Mas Indah 1st Street, in South Jakarta. Masjid Raya Al-Ittihad isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a hub of community activity, a testament to the spirit of togetherness. The mosque’s history began on March 20, 1987. Then-Minister of Internal Affairs, H Soedharmono SH, inaugurated the mosque. Its unique octagonal, star-shaped dome sets it apart from traditional mosques with rounded domes. This distinctive architectural feature makes Masjid Raya Al-Ittihad a recognizable landmark in the Tebet area. The mosque sits on a sprawling 6,500 square meter plot of land. The main building occupies approximately 1,900 square meters, leaving ample space for lush gardens and a spacious parking area. These shady trees offer a tranquil respite from the city’s hustle, creating a serene atmosphere around the Masjid Raya Al-Ittihad. The main prayer hall, located on the upper floor, offers a cool and comfortable environment thanks to air conditioning. This allows worshippers to fully immerse themselves in prayer. The lower floor houses a multipurpose room, which serves a crucial function during Friday prayers. When the main prayer hall overflows with worshippers, the multipurpose room becomes an extension of the sacred space. A large display screen connects the two floors, ensuring that those downstairs can still follow the imam’s lead. The multipurpose room also hosts community events, wedding receptions, and other celebrations, reflecting the mosque’s role as a central gathering place. Every Friday, Masjid Raya Al-Ittihad transforms into a vibrant marketplace. Traders set up stalls in the courtyard, offering everything from food and drinks to clothing and Islamic souvenirs. This lively atmosphere adds to the mosque’s appeal, creating a sense of community and shared experience. Beyond its role as a place of worship, Masjid Raya Al-Ittihad is a center for learning and social activities. It houses a Quran Education Park (TPA), a cooperative for employees, a Hajj Bureau (KBIH), and a Taklim Assembly Board (TMB). There’s even a kindergarten and elementary school within the complex, demonstrating the mosque’s commitment to education and community development. Masjid Raya Al-Ittihad truly embodies the spirit of unity and serves as a vibrant hub within the heart of Jakarta.
