Masjid Raya Al-Huda’s story isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s a story etched in the heart of Kampung Pulo. It began as Langgar Pak Tua Kiran a small prayer house. Generations remember it as a place of quiet devotion. In 1949 it transformed into Masjid Al-Barkah. This marked a significant step in the religious landscape.
The early Muhammadiyah community in Kampung Pulo found solace within Masjid Al-Barkah’s walls. They toiled tirelessly. They carried Ciliwung River sand on their shoulders. They built the mosque with their own hands. Their dedication shows their deep faith.
But conflict arose. Tensions between the Muhammadiyah community and other groups grew. Eventually the Muhammadiyah community was forced to leave Masjid Al-Barkah. This was a devastating blow. They were forced out during Ramadan a particularly poignant time.
However they did not falter. They moved to a small musala. This musala eventually collapsed under the weight of eager worshippers during Tarawih prayers. This setback only strengthened their resolve. They raised funds through communal efforts. They even took on manual labor. This was to fund their new mosque.
In 1965 after securing land their musala was officially designated a masjid. Kiai Abdul Halim a respected figure led the first Jumat prayer. This marked the birth of Masjid Jami Al-Huda. It was a new beginning.
Masjid Raya Al-Huda you see today is the third iteration. It stands as a symbol of resilience and unwavering faith. It is a hub for worship education and community engagement. It was built purely through the generosity of its community and donors.
