“Imagine a mosque made of wood.” This is the story of Masjid Nurul Ikhsan. It began as a simple wooden structure in 1980. The government built it to support a transmigration program.
Now, standing before the Masjid Nurul Ikhsan you’ll see something different. The original wooden mosque has transformed. It’s now a permanent building made of concrete. This renovation shows the community’s spirit. They rebuilt it with their own resources. They also received help from other parties.
Masjid Nurul Ikhsan can hold about 250 people. It is always full of life day and night. People come to perform their daily prayers. They attend study groups and celebrate Islamic holidays. The mosque even runs a special program. It is called “One Village One Mosque”. This program involves children from kindergarten, elementary school, and junior high school.
The Nurul Ihsan Mosque continues to evolve. The community seeks to improve its facilities. They welcome constructive feedback from everyone. This commitment ensures it remains a vital center. It serves the religious and community needs.
While this Masjid Nurul Ikhsan has a rich history, there is another mosque with a similar name. The Nur ul-Ihsan Mosque was in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It was the oldest mosque there until 2018. It was built in 1813 by the Cham community. Sadly, it was destroyed and replaced with a new mosque.
Here at Masjid Nurul Ikhsan in Jakarta, the story is different. It is a story of growth and community. It stands as a testament to the dedication of its people. It shows their commitment to faith and education.
