Masjid Nurul Ikhlas is Cilegon’s grand mosque. It is in the heart of the city. You can find it on Jalan Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa 2. It faces the mayor’s residence. Shops and businesses surround it. The mosque marks the gateway to Java from Sumatra.
This Masjid Nurul Ikhlas sits on 3,600 square meters. It has been around since the Dutch colonial era. Back then, it was not as grand. The original minaret was shorter. It was made taller in a renovation.
Cilegon’s local government rebuilt the Masjid Nurul Ikhlas. The project started in 2006. It took about three years. The cost was around 23 billion Rupiah. The mosque’s design changed completely. It can now hold up to 2,000 people. The renovated Masjid Nurul Ikhlas was inaugurated in March 2009. The Minister of Religious Affairs H. Maftuh Basuni and the Mayor of Cilegon H. Tb. Aat Syafa’at attended the event.
The Masjid Nurul Ikhlas has three floors. The basement covers 1,175 square meters. Here, you will find the ablution area and toilets. The main prayer hall is on the ground floor. It spans 1,372 square meters. The first floor is 1,073 square meters. Women use it for prayer. It also serves as extra space during Friday prayers and Eid prayers.
Outside, stairs lead to the first floor. These stairs connect to four large doors. These doors open directly into the main prayer hall. Parking space is limited. The mosque’s design is modern.
White, black, and gray marble dominate the interior. This creates a cool atmosphere. The Masjid Nurul Ikhlas was designed to reflect Cilegon’s modern spirit.
