Before Masjid Nurul Ihsan stood a bustling marketplace. It was the 1980s. The mosque was then known as the mosque behind Pondokgede Market.
Masjid Nurul Ihsan stands proudly across from Pondokgede Plaza II. Its history is interwoven with the development of this area in Bekasi. The Indonesian Air Force transformed the land of the former Dian Theatre. This was next to the market. They created Ramayana Plaza and Pondokgede Plaza I. A ring road was constructed behind it. This road passed in front of Masjid Nurul Ihsan. It connected to Pondokgede Square. Later Pondokgede Plaza II was built. It’s connected to Plaza Pondokgede I. Its front lobby faces Masjid Nurul Ihsan directly. After a fire Pondokgede Market was renovated. It’s now known as Atrium Pondokgede.
The surrounding area grew. So did Masjid Nurul Ihsan. Since the early 1990s it’s housed schools affiliated with the Ministry of Religion. These include kindergarten elementary middle and high schools. They aren’t named Nurul Ihsan. They’re simply called Al-Ihsan schools.
