A whispered prayer echoes through time. Welcome to Masjid Al-Huda a spiritual haven nestled in the heart of Bukit Timah. This mosque isn’t just a place of worship it’s a living testament to the rich history of this area.
Initially known as Masjid Kampong Coronation its roots stretch back to 1925. It replaced a smaller wooden structure serving the Malay-Muslim villagers. The original mosque was rebuilt larger and more beautiful. It resembled traditional Javanese mosques reflecting the heritage of many who lived nearby.
The land itself holds a fascinating story. It was once owned by a Hindu money lender. In 1905 the land was entrusted for use as a mosque. The mosque changed hands through several trustees over the years. These transfers were documented showing a long chain of community care. Finally in 1968 all mosques came under the administration of MUIS. The trustees’ responsibilities were passed on.
The mosque’s name changed to Masjid Al-Huda in the 1970s. The new management committee oversaw improvements. They started successful religious classes. These classes were extremely popular throughout the 70s and 80s.
As the area around Masjid Al-Huda developed the mosque adapted. The original asbestos roof was replaced with a metal roof in the 1990s due to leaks. Yet the minaret dome and mihrab remain intact. These features are original to the building. They remind us of the past.
