Whispers of history. That’s what you hear at Masjid Jami Al Mukarrohmah. This isn’t just any mosque. It’s a living testament to faith perseverance and the enduring legacy of Islamic scholars. Located in Kampung Bandan Jakarta Utara Masjid Jami Al Mukarrohmah holds a special place in the hearts of many.
This unassuming mosque is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a sanctuary built alongside the graves of two revered scholars. These scholars Habib Mohammad Bin Umar Qlqudsi and Habib Ali Bin Abdurrahman Ba Alawi arrived from Yemen. They dedicated their lives to spreading Islam throughout the archipelago. Their journey led them from India to Aceh and finally to this very spot. They shared their knowledge and faith until their passing.
Two hundred years later another influential figure Habib Abdurrahman Bin Alwi Asy Syathri built the original mosque. He chose this location honoring the legacy of his predecessors. In 2006 the mosque was renovated and given its current name Jami Al Mukarrohmah meaning the Congregation of the Glorified by Allah.
Beyond the historical significance Masjid Jami Al Mukarrohmah holds a unique charm. Two date palm trees stand sentinel near the entrance. One bears fruit each Ramadan. Pilgrims believe the dates possess special properties aiding fertility. They are often requested as a blessing.
Within the mosque’s walls you can find the final resting places of four ulama. Three unmarked graves belong to residents of Kampung Bandan. These individuals were brought to Jakarta from Banda Maluku during the VOC era. Their history is deeply intertwined with the stories of Masjid Jami Al Mukarrohmah. The mosque continues to serve as a spiritual center for pilgrims from Jakarta and beyond. Each Ramadan it offers 80 to 100 takjil as a gesture of hospitality and generosity. This mosque is a reminder of faith devotion and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
