Have you ever wondered about the origins of a place of worship? Let me tell you about Masjid Jami Nurul Ihsan. It is a story rooted in community spirit. It shows a dedication to faith in the heart of Jakarta.
In the 1950s the population around Jalan Durung grew. The Sidorejo area needed a larger mosque. Abu Bakar Saleh stepped forward. He donated his land of 649 square meters. His contribution was for building a much-needed mosque.
Construction of Masjid Jami Nurul Ihsan was a community effort. People worked together using donations. Finally in 1958 the mosque was completed. It was named Masjid Jami’ Nurul Ihsan. The Badan Kenaziran Masjid took over its management.
Fast forward to 2013. Community leaders discussed the mosque’s future again. The growing population required more space. They planned to expand Masjid Jami Nurul Ihsan. First they bought land east of the mosque. Later they would enlarge the building.
The community successfully purchased the land using donations. The Badan Kenaziran Masjid oversaw this first phase. A new management team then took over. It continued the expansion project.
The new team operated under the Badan Kemakmuran Masjid. In 2016 Al Ustadz H Fachrurrozy Pulungan M A led this group. The Kantor Urusan Agama officially appointed them.
Under Al Ustadz H Fachrurrozy Pulungan’s leadership they developed a plan. The plan was for quick construction and expansion of Masjid Jami Nurul Ihsan. They formed a committee for the construction. Architects were invited. They designed the expanded mosque.
The groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction. The Mayor of Medan Bapak Drs H Tengku Dzulmi Eldin S M Si attended. The Vice Mayor Bapak Ir Akhyar Nasution M Si was also present. The ceremony took place on April 1 2016.
