The soaring minaret of Masjid Jami Nurul Falah a testament to faith. This magnificent mosque wasn’t always so grand. It began as a humble langgar a small prayer house owned by Guru Jaisan.

Masjid Jami Nurul Falah more than just a place of worship. It served as a center for learning. Children and adults alike received education within its walls. During Indonesia’s struggle for independence it even became a base for resistance.

In 1952 the langgar was elevated to a full-fledged mosque. It stood upon 400 square meters of wakaf land a sacred donation. The name Masjid Jami Nurul Falah wasn’t bestowed until the 1960s by Ustaz Achmad Nairan.

The mosque underwent significant renovations in 1971 and again in 1984. The 1984 renovation was a complete transformation. Two local architects Both Soedargo and Taufik designed the modern structure we see today. The project took two years. It was officially inaugurated by Minister of State Secretary Sudharmono on December 13 1986.

The distinctive shell-like dome is a marvel of ferrocement. This innovative technique was relatively new at the time. Each detail holds symbolic meaning. The ten curves around the main dome represent the ten angels. The dome’s 17-meter height from floor to peak refers to the Nuzulul Quran or the 17th of Ramadan the day the Quran was revealed. It also reflects the total number of rakaats in obligatory prayers. Interestingly it echoes Indonesia’s independence day.

The 27-meter-tall minaret on the northeast side of the kiblah points to the 27th of Rajab the date of Isra Mi’raj. This is the night Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven. The minaret’s unique design a star separate from the crescent moon stems from an architect’s dream in Mecca.
