A triangular marvel stands before you. This is Masjid Jami’e Darussalam. Its unusual shape is striking. It’s unlike any other mosque you’ve seen.
Masjid Jami’e Darussalam is more than just a beautiful building. It’s a testament to perseverance. It’s a symbol of compromise in a bustling city. This Jakarta mosque holds a unique place in the city’s history. Its story began on a plot of wakaf land. This land was slated for redevelopment. A project called Putragaya Wahana was planned.
The original mosque stood in the way of this project. The developers proposed a solution. They offered to move the mosque. They would rebuild it on a new plot of wakaf land. This new location was 200 meters from the original site.
The new Masjid Jami’e Darussalam is not just a relocation. It’s a work of art. It was designed by Ridwan Kamil. He’s a well-known architect. His design is a modern interpretation of traditional Indonesian architecture. The triangular shape was a bold choice. It sparked controversy among some residents. Some felt it resembled a church more than a mosque.
Initially there was resistance. People questioned the design. But after discussions and explanations. They understood Ridwan Kamil’s vision. He sought to move away from the traditional dome. The dome he argued is associated with hotter climates. The triangular roof is more common in Indonesian homes. The kaligrafi inside further helped to quell concerns. It features the la ilaha illallah declaration. This inscription helped gain wider acceptance.
The mosque was finally inaugurated on June 25 2015. This was 8 Ramadhan 1436 H. Today Masjid Jami’e Darussalam thrives. It serves the community. It hosts regular religious activities such as pengajian. It also provides buka puasa meals during Ramadan. This unique mosque stands as a symbol of adaptation and community spirit. It’s a place of worship. It’s a point of pride for the neighborhood. It’s a testament to the power of dialogue. It’s a reminder that even in the face of change tradition and progress can coexist.
