On a Friday in October 2019, a vibrant ceremony unfolded at SMK Negeri 14 in Johar Baru, Jakarta. The air buzzed with excitement as Jakarta’s Central Mayor, Bayu Meghantara, inaugurated the Masjid Jami Baitun Nur. The official opening, marked by a ribbon-cutting and the sharing of tumpeng, a cone-shaped rice dish, signified more than just the completion of a building. It represented a beautiful collaboration between the school, the government, and Baznas Bazis DKI Jakarta. Mayor Meghantara praised the initiative, emphasizing the importance of Masjid Jami Baitun Nur in nurturing not only academic excellence but also spiritual growth within the school community. He expressed confidence that the mosque would become a vital hub, serving both students and the local neighborhood. The journey of Masjid Jami Baitun Nur is a testament to community spirit and dedication. Originally a smaller prayer space, a musala, it stood on a plot of 225 square meters. The dream of a larger, more accommodating mosque took root, and over a period of nearly two years, the musala transformed into the impressive two-story Masjid Jami Baitun Nur. The new mosque now covers 450 square meters. The head of SMK Negeri 14, Hj Nunung Isnadiah, shared the story of the mosque’s construction. It was a collaborative effort, funded by a combination of community fundraising, donations, and support from Baznas Bazis DKI Jakarta. The project, costing 1.3 billion rupiah, took just 1.8 months to complete. She expressed gratitude for the collective effort that brought Masjid Jami Baitun Nur to life. The mosque stands as a symbol of hope and a center for spiritual development. Its presence enriches the lives of students, staff, and the wider Johar Baru community.
