The year is 1990. Masjid Jami’ Baitul Khoir is no longer just a small musholla. It has grown. It stands tall. A testament to the community’s faith and dedication. Its foundation was laid back in 1960. Now it proudly displays its new form.
Masjid Jami’ Baitul Khoir in Jakarta is more than just a mosque. It’s a place of peace. A sanctuary built on the principles of Baitul Khoir meaning ‘the best place’. This beautiful mosque in Pengadegan Jakarta Selatan welcomes everyone. It has a unique architectural style. It blends elements of Middle Eastern and Ottoman Turkish design.
Notice the striking green exterior. The mosque’s facade is adorned with Islamic star-patterned roster. The light green color is visually stunning. There are artificial windows. They are arch-shaped. They have a striped paint design reminiscent of the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.
The main dome rises majestically from the center. Two smaller domes flank it. They add to the visual appeal. These domes are painted in shades of green. A gradation of dark to light green creates a beautiful effect. A diamond motif adorns the domes. The mosque’s minaret stands separately. It is approximately 15 meters high. It is decorated with water-current patterns and stained-glass windows.
Inside Masjid Jami’ Baitul Khoir you’ll find spacious prayer halls. The main prayer hall on the first floor is about 200 square meters. The second floor houses a women’s prayer area of the same size. The total floor area is 400 square meters. This easily accommodates hundreds of worshippers. Add in the terraces and the mosque can easily hold over 1200 people.
Look closely at the mihrab. It’s a rectangular alcove with a curved top. The mihrab is beautifully detailed. It features embossed ornaments. These are in the same light green as the exterior roster. The edges are gilded in gold. A wooden mimbar in the shape of a miniature mosque stands inside. It is intricately carved with the Shahada. Crystal chandeliers add to the elegant ambience. The walls are adorned with red-brown ceramics. Stainless steel ornaments with the names of Allah and the Prophet Muhammad grace the upper section.
The central void in the front resembles a T. This architectural feature offers a view of the dome’s interior. The dome’s concave ceiling is painted with a blue sky and clouds. From the center hangs a three-tiered chandelier. It has eighteen lights in a 3-6-9 configuration. The lower part of the dome has 26 stained-glass windows. They show alternating calligraphy of the names of Allah and the Prophet Muhammad. The very bottom of the dome displays Quranic verses in white calligraphy on a green background.
The mosque also has eight glass sliding doors and windows along the side walls. Seven split AC units eight helicopter-style fans and two high-powered wall fans ensure a comfortable temperature.
