Hidden within the bustling heart of Jakarta, Masjid Jami Baitul Khoir beckons. It whispers tales of transformation and community. Masjid Jami Baitul Khoir started humbly. It began as a small Musholla in 1960. The community’s spirit propelled its growth. By 1990, it blossomed into the mosque we see today. “Baitul Khoir” translates to “the best place.” The name reflects its importance as a spiritual sanctuary.

Masjid Jami Baitul Khoir stands as a testament to architectural fusion. The exterior showcases a captivating blend of Islamic and Middle Eastern influences. Light green Islamic star-shaped roster patterns adorn the walls. Arched, striped windows reminiscent of Masjid Nabawi add a touch of Medina’s charm. The central dome rises proudly, flanked by two smaller domes on the front roof. These domes, painted in shades of dark and light green with diamond patterns, add a touch of elegance. A separate minaret, approximately 15 meters tall, graces the front left side, adorned with flowing water motifs and stained glass windows.

Inside, Masjid Jami Baitul Khoir reveals a world of serenity. The main prayer hall on the first floor spans about 200 square meters. A mezzanine level of equal size provides a dedicated space for women. Combined, these spaces can accommodate up to 800 worshippers. Additional terraces on both floors expand the capacity further. The interior is simple yet elegant. Cream-colored granite tiles, covered with a red Dunhill carpet, create a warm ambiance. Air conditioners and fans provide respite from Jakarta’s heat.

The mihrab, a niche in the wall indicating the direction of Mecca, is a work of art. It’s a two-meter wide, six-meter high, and two-meter deep alcove. Intricate star and flower Islamic ornamentation, matching the exterior roster, frame the mihrab. Gold paint highlights its edges. A wooden mimbar, shaped like a miniature mosque, stands within the mihrab. Its top front displays a carved Shahada. A crystal chandelier illuminates the space, casting a soft glow. The altar wall features deep red 50×50 cm tiles. Above, stainless steel calligraphy spells out the names of Allah and Prophet Muhammad.

A T-shaped void in the ceiling offers a glimpse of the dome’s inner beauty. A painting of a blue sky with clouds adorns the six-meter diameter dome. An 18-point ethnic chandelier hangs from the center. Calligraphy of Allah and Prophet Muhammad SAW embellishes 26 stained glass windows around the lower dome. Verses from the Quran, painted in white on a green background, encircle the very bottom. Windows and sliding glass doors line the side walls, allowing natural light to filter in.

Masjid Jami Baitul Khoir is more than just a building. It is a vibrant hub for the community. It is a place where prayers are answered and friendships are forged. It stands as a beacon of faith and unity, a testament to the enduring spirit of Islam in the heart of Jakarta.
