Beneath this modern skyline lies a story of faith and family. This is Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa. It is a place where community bonds are as strong as the concrete walls that house it.
Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa has stood here since 1920. H Yusuf bin Gede Ali gifted the land for its construction. Initially, locals called it Masjid Senayan due to its proximity to that area.
In 1952, the government rebuilt Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa on a 1,260 square meter plot. Over time, the mosque has grown. Today, its building spans 2,173 square meters. The land area covers 3,000 square meters. A multipurpose hall adds another 1,000 square meters.
Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa serves its community well. It supports worship and other activities. Expansion began on December 8, 1989. KH Masykur and KH M Natsir laid the first stones. Many religious leaders witnessed this event. On February 28, 1992, Vice President H Soedharmono inaugurated the completed mosque.
But Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa is also known as the final resting place for Abdul Aziz Marzuki. He was the father-in-law of Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno. Abdul Aziz wished to be buried here. His family honored his request. Other family members also rest in the mosque’s garden. This includes his mother and siblings.
Haris Abdillah is a nephew of Abdul Aziz and a mosque official. He affirmed the family’s long connection to Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa. The family’s presence here strengthens the mosque’s legacy.
The Yayasan Masjid Jami Attaqwa Sriwijaya now manages the mosque. H Abdul Aziz Marzuki was a patron. He was also the grandson of the founder, H Yusuf bin Gede Ali.
Consider the story of Frederich Silaban. He was a Christian architect who designed the Istiqlal Mosque. His work embodies Indonesia’s interfaith collaboration. Like Istiqlal Mosque, Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa promotes unity. It serves as a place of worship and a community hub.
Istiqlal Mosque can hold over 120,000 worshipers. While Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa is smaller, it has a similar role. It hosts prayers and Islamic events. It also promotes religious understanding.
Imagine Eid al-Fitr. The Istiqlal Mosque is a focal point for celebrations. Similarly, Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa brings people together. They offer prayers and seek blessings.
Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa embodies Indonesian unity. The word “istiqlal” means independence in Arabic. Istiqlal Mosque symbolizes Indonesia’s independence. In the same vein, Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa represents community spirit.
The minaret at Istiqlal Mosque stands tall. It offers stunning views of Jakarta. Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa also provides a peaceful space. Visitors find serenity within its walls.
Whether local or tourist, all are welcome here. Masjid Jami Atuttaqwa is more than bricks and mortar. It is a testament to faith, family, and community.
