Step into the heart of Jakarta’s vibrant tapestry. Behold Masjid Jami Ath Thayyibah a testament to faith and community. This magnificent mosque stands as a beacon of spirituality. It stands proudly in the midst of the city’s bustling energy.
Originally a small humble musholla it began in 1981. It was built on DKI Jakarta public land. The initiative came from the late Mr H Amir Hamzah Nasution. The Ath-Thayyibah School then known as Bina Insan Mandiri hosted Taraweeh prayers. This led to the construction of the small asbestos-roofed musholla. As the surrounding community grew so did the need for a larger place of worship.
In 1986 the first renovation took place. The structure expanded. It still remained a single-story building. It featured a simple tile roof. Its name evolved into Masjid Jami Ath Thayyibah. A significant transformation occurred in 2001. The community decided to undertake a complete renovation. A two-story permanent structure was planned. It would cover a total area of 1082 square meters. This was on a 962 square meter plot of land.
Funding for this ambitious project came from various sources. The initial capital was taken from the mosque’s own funds. Donations of zakat infaq and sadaqah poured in. This resulted in a total of 2.6 billion rupiahs. The construction was completed in less than three years in 2004.
The mosque’s location on public land raised concerns. There were worries about DKI Jakarta’s direct management of the mosque. The community had funded the entire construction. Therefore they petitioned the DKI Jakarta administration. Their request was to obtain management rights. This ensured the community’s continued stewardship of Masjid Jami Ath Thayyibah. Today this mosque continues to serve as a vital center for prayer community gatherings and religious education in the heart of Jakarta. It’s a place where faith community and history intertwine.
