Beneath Jakarta’s skyline, Masjid Jami At Taufiq stands as more than just a place of worship. It is a landmark with a fascinating story. This mosque’s construction completed in 2022. It is located in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta.
Now, look at the building. See how it rises from the site of a former party office. This transformation embodies a profound shift. The land once served the needs of a political organization. It now provides a sanctuary for spiritual reflection.
Masjid Jami At Taufiq arose from an idea by Megawati Soekarnoputri. She is the leader of the PDI Perjuangan party. She dedicated it to the memory of her late husband, Taufiq Kiemas. Her daughter, Puan Maharani, brought this vision to life. The first stone was laid in June 2018. This coincided with the fifth anniversary of Taufiq Kiemas’s passing.
Note how the mosque blends Indonesian archipelago architecture with modern design. The towering roof is a clear nod to Nusantara traditions. Islamic ornaments adorn the facade. They feature the 99 names of Allah, Asmaul Husna. This echoes the archipelago’s architectural heritage. The mosque covers 1,921 square meters. It offers space for 400 to 500 worshippers.
The mosque’s design incorporates the Hablum Minannas Hablum Minallah philosophy. This emphasizes the balance between human relationships and the relationship with God. The first floor accommodates ablution rooms and an auditorium. This space is versatile. It hosts wedding receptions and inter-religious dialogues. The second floor is dedicated to prayer. It features a towering roof. This symbolizes the greatness of the Creator.
The interior of Masjid Jami At Taufiq is just as impressive. Filigree ornaments decorate the prayer room. These serve as natural ventilation. Skylights provide natural light. They create a dramatic ambiance. The mihrab features solid black material. It reflects the black stone of the Kaaba.
Outside, the landscape includes a staircase. It provides access to the prayer room. This staircase doubles as an amphitheater. This area can be used for discussions and relaxation. The architects, JOSO, designed the mosque with these elements. Thoat Fauzi and Fathurrohman Hakim Muqorrobin led the project. Mario Wibowo captured its beauty through photographs.
Masjid Jami At Taufiq is more than a building. It is a testament to memory. It is a symbol of community. It embodies a unique blend of architectural styles. It serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of faith and society.
