Considered a historical site. That’s what makes Masjid Jami At-Taubah so special. This mosque stands proudly in Rawajati, South Jakarta. It has been a place of worship for the local community since 1923.

Masjid Jami At-Taubah started as a small mushola. Over time, the increasing number of worshippers led to its expansion into a mosque. The community, local government and special donors supported this growth with funds.

Covering 1250 square meters. Masjid Jami At-Taubah can accommodate around 1500 people. The mosque holds daily recitations for five consecutive days. Iwan Hamdi leads the DKM and manages the mosque to meet the community’s needs.

Pilgrims often visit Masjid Jami At-Taubah. The complex houses the tomb of Habib Ahmad bin Alwi Al Haddad. He is also known as Habib Kuncung. He was a famous scholar.

Masjid At-Taubah is a historical site. Habib Abdullah Ja’far Al Haddad built it in the 18th century. He was the great-grandfather of Habib Kuncung.

Initially the mosque had only two tombs. As time passed, more tombs were added. All were descendants of the mosque’s founder. This includes Habib Kuncung.

Muslims in Jakarta consider Habib Kuncung special. People believed he had unique abilities. Habib Kuncung was born in Ghurfah, Tarim, Hadramaut. This was on 26 Sya’ban 1254 H. When he arrived in Betawi. Masjid At-Taubah became his base. From there he spread Islamic teachings.

During his life, Habib Kuncung was known for his khoriqul na’dah. This means abilities beyond normal human capabilities. In the language of saints, he was an ahli Darkah.

Ahli Darkah refers to someone who appears when others need them. Muhammad believed that Habib Kuncung had this ability. Visitors come to Masjid Jami At-Taubah not only to worship. They also visit Habib Kuncung’s tomb. The management of the tomb and mosque also organize religious activities.

Habib Ahmad bin Alwi al-Haddad is known as Habib Kuncung. He was a wali Allah. People remember him for his karomah. His life story serves as an example for Muslims today.

Habib Kuncung was born on November 14, 1838. His birthplace was in Qurhfa Hadramaut Tarim, Yemen. From a young age, he was involved in trade. This allowed him to travel throughout Southeast Asia.

Habib Kuncung studied in several countries. These included the Netherlands, Malaysia and Singapore. He also learned from several habibs in Indonesia. These included Habib Alwi al-Haddad and Habib Ali bin Husein al-Haddad. Also Habib Abdurrahman bin Abdullah al-Habsyi and Habib Abdullah bin Mukhsin al-Attas. The name ‘Kuncung’ came from his habit. He wore a Bugis nobleman’s cap. The cap had a conical shape.

One of Masjid Jami At-Taubah’s attractions is Habib Kuncung. Muslims in Jakarta consider him to have a special status. The scholar was believed to have unique abilities.

Habib Kuncung possessed abilities beyond human limits. In the language of saints, he was an ahli darkah. He often appeared suddenly to help those in need.

Another of Habib Kuncung’s karomah was his ability to travel through space and time. Hasan bin Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Haddad said. Habib Kuncung was hard to predict.

For example, he refused to go to Pekalongan. But when the group arrived, Habib Kuncung was already there. Habib Kuncung died in 1926 at the age of 93. His tomb is next to Masjid Jami At-Taubah. It is located in Kalibata, Jalan Rawajati Timur II No. 69.

Pilgrims from various regions still visit Habib Kuncung’s tomb. Near the tomb, there is a large jar of water. Pilgrims often drink this water. The existence of Masjid Jami At-Taubah is very important. It serves as a reminder of Jakarta’s rich Islamic history.
