Shouldn’t we explore the historical depths of Jakarta? Today, we visit Masjid Jami As Sholihin. It is a place where faith and history intertwine.

Masjid Jami As Sholihin stands as a testament to Jakarta’s rich cultural heritage. This mosque offers more than just a space for prayer. It is a journey through time. It connects the past with the present.

Now, let’s dive into the story of another significant mosque in Jakarta, the Al-Mansur Mosque. It is also known as Masjid Jami Al Mansur. This mosque shares a glimpse into the city’s vibrant past.

Founded in 1717 AD by Raden Abdul Malik, Al-Mansur Mosque served as both a place of worship and a center for community education. Raden Abdul Malik was also known as Prince Cakrajaya Adiningrat. The mosque played a crucial role in Indonesia’s struggle for independence. It stood against Dutch and Japanese forces under the leadership of KH. Mohammad Mansyur.

KH. Mohammad Mansyur was a Betawi figure. He was known for his fight against Dutch colonial rules. In honor of his contributions, the mosque was renamed Masjid Jami al-Mansyur after his death on May 12, 1967. Before that, it was named Jami Kampung Sawah.

A dramatic event occurred between 1947 and 1948. Nationalist forces and NICA soldiers engaged in a gun battle. This happened when Mansur tried to raise a Red-and-White flag on the mosque’s minarets. These minarets, once symbols of resistance, now appear obsolete.

The architecture of Al-Mansur Mosque is also very interesting. The main hall, the oldest part of the building, measures 12 by 14.40 meters. Four solid pillars stand prominently in the middle of the hall. These columns have octagonal bases and are adorned with seams.

Wooden beams support two staircases leading to the attic. These beams feature rhomboid-patterned fences. The roof of the mosque has a limasan shape. The tower, located in front of the old mosque, is cylindrical and reaches a height of 12 meters. It has a semicircular dome.

Al-Mansur Mosque is more than just a building. It is a cultural heritage site. It received recognition through Governor’s Decree no. Cb. 11/1/12/72.

While we are not inside Al-Mansur Mosque today, its story enriches our understanding of Jakarta’s religious history. It also gives us a perspective on Masjid Jami As Sholihin. Each mosque in Jakarta carries its own unique narrative. These narratives contribute to the city’s diverse cultural tapestry.
