The year is 1760. A wealthy and charitable figure, Sayid Abdullah bin Huseim Alaydrius, arrives in Jakarta from Hadramaut, Yemen. He envisions a beacon of faith, a place of gathering for the growing Muslim community. This vision takes shape as Masjid Jami An Nashirudin. The Masjid Jami An Nashirudin quickly becomes a central point in the Pekojan district. It stands as a testament to the burgeoning Arab influence in Jakarta. The mosque’s architecture reflects this blend of cultures, a harmonious fusion of Arab and Indonesian design. Over the years, Masjid Jami An Nashirudin undergoes several renovations. A significant expansion occurs in 1850, led by Commander Dahlan from Banten. Later, in 1897, additional land is donated, further solidifying the mosque’s presence in the community. Now, step inside Masjid Jami An Nashirudin and imagine the echoes of prayers offered over centuries. The main prayer hall is expansive. It’s capable of accommodating up to 50 worshippers. Notice the intricate details of the building. The roof is tiled, the walls are sturdy brick, and the floor is covered in smooth ceramics. The mosque features 33 supporting pillars. These pillars are a unique blend of architectural styles. Their octagonal bases and rounded, fluted shafts resemble European columns, yet they stand within a traditional mosque setting. Masjid Jami An Nashirudin has served as more than just a place of worship. Its minaret, resembling a lighthouse, has been a landmark for generations. During times of conflict, the mosque even provided refuge for those seeking safety. Today, Masjid Jami An Nashirudin stands as a symbol of resilience and community. It is a reminder of the rich history and diverse cultural tapestry that makes Jakarta so unique.
