Nestled within the bustling Sudirman Central Business District, a beacon of serenity stands tall: Masjid Jami Al-Kautsar. Masjid Jami Al-Kautsar isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a testament to artistic vision and symbolic richness. Located near the Gedung Artha Graha and across from the Pacific Place mall, the mosque’s beauty captivates all who pass by. The name “Al-Kautsar” itself, taken from the Quran, signifies abundant blessings, a fitting name for this magnificent structure. Masjid Jami Al-Kautsar’s architecture is a narrative in stone and steel. From the Jalan SCBD, the mosque’s three tiers represent iman (faith), Islam (submission), and ihsan (excellence). The main dome, crafted from copper, is surrounded by four smaller domes, symbolizing the four Islamic schools of thought: Maliki, Hanafi, Shafi’i, and Hambali. These five domes together also represent the five pillars of Islam. Two main minarets flank the entrance, symbolizing the two testimonies of faith (Shahada). Four additional minarets grace the ablution area, totaling six, representing the six articles of faith. The main minarets, reaching 33 meters, signify the count of tasbih beads. The other four, standing at 17 meters, represent the number of rakats in the five daily prayers. Nine main pillars support Masjid Jami Al-Kautsar, a tribute to the Wali Songo, the nine propagators of Islam in Java. The pointed pillars surrounding the building, combined with the main pillars, domes, and minarets, add up to 25, representing the 25 prophets recognized in Islam. Inside Masjid Jami Al-Kautsar, 99 rounded pillars echo the 99 names of Allah (Asma’ul Husna). The intricate Jepara carvings adorning the doors, windows, and walkways, alongside the Islamic calligraphy, further enhance the mosque’s beauty. Masjid Jami Al-Kautsar isn’t merely a visual spectacle. It’s a place where architectural grandeur meets spiritual significance, offering a tranquil escape in the heart of Jakarta’s vibrant energy.
