Around 1619 a battle occurred. Pangeran Jayakarta’s soldiers fought the Dutch. They were led by Governor-General Jaan Pieter Zoon Coen. The battle was in Mangga Dua Central Jakarta. Pangeran Jayakarta’s soldiers were surrounded. He escaped by throwing his robe into an old well. The Dutch thought he was dead. They filled the well.
Pangeran Jayakarta moved to East Jakarta. He reached a dense teak forest. It is now Jatinegara. He founded a mosque across the Kali Sunter. This Masjid Jami Assalafiyah was built in 1620. It gathered fighters and scholars. They fought the Dutch. The Jakarta government renovates the mosque.
