“Built in 1935.” That’s the year Masjid Jami’ Al Haadi began its story. It started as Masjid Jami an-Nur. Visionary religious figures like K.H. Noer Ali helped create it. Ust. Burhanuddin and H. Thoha also contributed.

Originally the mosque stood on donated land. H. James and others gave 4000 square meters. The building was simple. The community faced economic hardship due to colonization. The floor was just earth covered with pandan mats. About 70 people could fit inside.

Yet, Masjid Jami’ Al Haadi became a base. Young Muslims trained here. They formed the Hizbullah/Sabilillah army. The colonizers feared them.

The Dutch and Japanese suspected the mosque’s activities. Ust. Burhanuddin was arrested. He taught Quranic interpretations about jihad. The Dutch forbade translating the Quran into Malay. They especially opposed verses about fighting Dutch rule.

The Japanese also watched the mosque closely. Their intelligence suspected an underground movement. But they found no solid proof. The mosque’s leaders were cautious. They protected their religious mission. They also supported Indonesia’s independence.

After independence, the mosque focused on development. Every three years, expansions occurred. Masjid Jami’ Al Haadi gradually became a permanent structure.

During the communist era, the mosque played a role again. It defended the community’s faith. During the G/30 S/PKI rebellion, the mosque’s members helped suppress the movement.

As the country stabilized, the mosque helped develop Indonesian society. The building improved. It became more beautiful.

Renovations began in January 1991. The project cost around Rp300 million. The goal was a two-story mosque. It would hold over 2000 people.

Masjid Jami’ Al Haadi stands as a testament to faith. It represents resistance and community development. It is a place with a rich and important history.
