Masjid Jami Al Fudhola

In 1918, a determined community, led by Haji Armin and H. Muntaha, relocated Masjid Al-Fudhola. Masjid Al-Fudhola originally stood in Pejongkoran. This area later transformed into the Tanjung Priok port. The expansion of the port necessitated the mosque’s move. The community rallied together to rebuild Masjid Al-Fudhola on Jalan Dobo No. 4. This street later became Jalan Timor Raya. The mosque, at its new location, was renamed Attauhid. It fell under the control of PT. Terminal Peti Kemas Koja. Between its relocation and 1950, Masjid Al-Fudhola remained a humble structure. It was affectionately known as the “Gang 18 Mosque” or the “PKP Mosque”. The leadership of Masjid Al-Fudhola changed hands several times due to various circumstances, including the passing of some key figures. In 1953, KH. Syafi’i and his associates took the helm. They led the community until 2009, guiding Masjid Al-Fudhola through a period of significant growth and activity. Under KH. Syafi’i, the mosque flourished. Key figures like H. Ya’kub, KH. Syatibi, H. Uding Syamsuddin, and Al-Habib Syekh Al-Jufri bolstered the community. Radio Agustina publicized the mosque’s activities, reaching the wider Jakarta population. Its strategic location further contributed to its prominence. Masjid Al-Fudhola became a hub of community engagement. To further organize and expand the mosque’s activities, the Al-Fudhola Foundation was established on August 1, 1978. The foundation’s ambition extended to establishing the Al-Fudhola Islamic boarding school. This was planned for Kampung Walang on a large plot of land owned by the foundation. However, this land now houses a tax office. Disagreements arose in 1994 regarding the relocation of Masjid Al-Fudhola. The expansion of the Koja Container Terminal (TPK Koja) threatened its location. This led to a division of the foundation’s assets. The dream of the Islamic boarding school was abandoned. The discord significantly impacted the mosque’s activities. A decline followed, leading to its complete relocation to Kampung Beting on December 28, 2002. In 2009, H. Sofyan Sidik, son of H. Syafi’i, assumed leadership of the foundation. Masjid Al-Fudhola, despite its rich history, is yet to regain its former glory.
