The Muslim community of Jakapermai, then known as the Al-Muhajirien Study Group, dreamt of a local mosque. Their journey was long and complex. It took years to secure land, obtain permits, and gather funds. The original plan aimed for completion by 2000, with an estimated cost of Rp. 3 billion. To achieve this ambitious goal, the community adopted a unique fundraising approach. They prioritized building the Al-Azhar Jakapermai Islamic Kindergarten on the mosque grounds. This served as a “seed field,” nurturing future generations who would eventually fill the mosque. This forward-thinking strategy highlights the community’s dedication to long-term growth and spiritual development. Despite their efforts, construction stalled for nearly a decade. In 1998, a newly formed board revived the project. They began using the existing concrete framework as a makeshift prayer space. This marked a turning point, breathing new life into the stalled construction. Masjid Jami Al-Azhar Jakapermai finally opened its doors on August 9, 2006. The inauguration ceremony was led by then-Vice President Jusuf Kalla. The spacious and clean prayer hall quickly became a sanctuary for locals and travelers alike. Those passing through the area often stop to pray and find respite within its peaceful walls. Inside Masjid Jami Al-Azhar Jakapermai, the large mimbar, or pulpit, stands out. It is reminiscent of those found in mosques across the Middle East and Turkey. This prominent feature adds another layer to the mosque’s blend of architectural influences.
