“Built in 1997” echoes in the wind. This is the story of Masjid Fathullah UIN Jakarta. The mosque stands as a testament to faith and community. It is located in Ciputat, Tangerang Selatan, Banten. Masjid Fathullah serves as the campus mosque for UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
Masjid Fathullah began its construction in 1994. It reached completion on Monday, November 10, 1997. The two-story building covers an area of 2,125 square meters. The first floor prayer hall spans 985 square meters. The second floor provides 821 square meters for prayer. Activity rooms on both floors add another 319 square meters. Ablution areas each occupy 119 square meters on both floors. Two permanent minarets rise beside the mosque.
UIN Syarif Hidayatullah directly oversees Masjid Fathullah. The university issued the building permit. Bapak Qurais Shihab, the rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta at the time, granted it.
The vision for Masjid Fathullah was clear. It aimed to be a leading mosque. It would focus on developing faith and worship. Good character and social action were key. This was for the campus community and surrounding areas.
Its mission included several goals. These goals are guiding the community toward correct Islamic beliefs. Enabling the community to perform worship well is another. The mission also focuses on creating a community with noble character. Encouraging the community to engage in social activities is a further goal. Preparing young Muslims with knowledge is a crucial aim. They should have sound faith and good character. They should also be enthusiastic about worship and social action.
In its early years around 1997, Masjid Fathullah thrived. Students showed great enthusiasm. They eagerly studied books on hadith and Islamic law. Interest has waned over the years since then.
The Ikatan Remaja Masjid Fathullah or IRMAFA formed in 1997. It hoped to become a center for Islamic studies. It aimed to nurture insightful Islamic thinkers. IRMAFA aspired to be a role model for other youth organizations. From this organization emerged two more institutions. These are LTTQ and LPQ. LTTQ caters to university students. LPQ is designed for children.
Masjid Fathullah did not have any impact regarding Indonesia’s Independence Day because the building was completed in 1997. However, the mosque held prayers for victims of the 2004 Aceh tsunami.
Masjid Fathullah stands as a symbol of faith. It embodies community spirit. Its modern architecture and vibrant history make it a place of reflection. It is a beacon of guidance for generations to come.
