“Cahaya Islam” that is what the name Fajrul Islam means. Let’s step closer to this mosque. Masjid Fajrul Islam stands here in Kebayoran Baru Jakarta. It is more than just a building. It is a legacy a testament to faith and a symbol of community.
This very ground beneath Masjid Fajrul Islam once held something far less sacred. It was a dumping ground a place of refuse. KH Zainuddin MZ the beloved Dai Sejuta Umat or One Million People Preacher felt unease about it.
After his family moved here he spent three years feeling unsettled by this eyesore. He envisioned something greater something that would uplift the community. His vision took shape a mosque right in front of his house.
But KH Zainuddin MZ felt uneasy again after ten years. His own home appeared grander than the Masjid Fajrul Islam across the street. This bothered him deeply. How could his house outshine a house of Allah?
He gathered his family. They decided to rebuild the mosque to make it more majestic than his home. Construction began in 2006. During this rebuilding a crucial error was discovered. The mosque’s kiblat the direction of Mecca was slightly off. It was not aligned correctly.
This discovery reinforced the need for reconstruction. Friends and supporters rallied to help finance the project. The rebuilt Masjid Fajrul Islam was completed around 2009. This was just two years before KH Zainuddin MZ passed away.
KH Zainuddin MZ personally chose the name Fajrul Islam. It translates to the Dawn of Islam or the Light of Islam. His son Lutfie Eman Faluty shared that his father left no specific instructions after his death. However his most important message was to care for the mosque.
The family did not inherit a company from their father. They inherited a responsibility. It was their duty to maintain Masjid Fajrul Islam. KH Zainuddin MZ once said building is easier than maintaining.
Today Masjid Fajrul Islam continues to serve its purpose. It is a center for Islamic teachings and community benefit. For Lutfie it is a precious inheritance. It is a legacy from his father that must be protected for the benefit of all.
The mosque also holds the tomb of KH Zainuddin MZ and his wife. After evening prayers worshippers visit their tomb. They offer prayers for the couple. Their prayers are for unity in this world and reunion in the hereafter.
Masjid Fajrul Islam stands as a testament to one man’s vision. It embodies his dedication to faith and community. It began as a dream to transform a garbage dump into a beacon of light. Now the cream-colored mosque building serves as a lasting legacy.
