Here, at Masjid El Syifa, a unique story unfolds. This is not just any mosque. Masjid El Syifa is a haven of inclusivity. It welcomes everyone, especially those often overlooked. This mosque is designed to be friendly to people with disabilities.

Imagine Ciganjur. Picture someone using a wheelchair. Many mosques present obstacles. High steps and inaccessible facilities make worship difficult. But Masjid El Syifa is different.

Completed in late 2018, Masjid El Syifa broke barriers. It became Jakarta’s first mosque designed with disabled worshippers in mind. Haji Muhiddin, head of the mosque council, dreamed of a space for everyone. His dream took years to realize.

The design focuses on easy access. Instead of steps, gentle slopes lead into the building. This allows wheelchair users to move freely. Inside, the facilities are thoughtfully arranged.

Consider the toilet. It features a seated toilet with a shower. A small towel is provided to wipe the wheelchair from water splashes. Two handrails offer support. An emergency button sits near the door, ready to call for help.

Now, step into the ablution area. Two faucets are available. One is low for washing feet. The other, a stainless steel sink, can be pulled down. It allows worshippers to wash their face and hands comfortably. A large mirror completes the space. The ablution area connects directly to the main prayer hall.

Hadi Syaifullah, Secretary of the Mosque, said the mosque was conceived in April 2018. The designs were finalized in November 2018. The grand opening was held on December 21, 2018. Disability organizations were invited to evaluate the mosque. Their feedback was invaluable.

Originally, Masjid El Syifa had limited facilities. They grew over time. The mosque acquired two wheelchair ramps. Special bathrooms for people with physical disabilities were built. Later, they added Braille Qurans and thirty chairs for prayer.

Masjid El Syifa wants to help people with visual and hearing impairments. Architects are exploring video screens. These screens will display the number of each rakaat. They may even show the Imam’s recitations.

Haji Masyhur, Chairman of the Board of Masjid El-Syifa, emphasizes the importance of non-discrimination in worship.

Masjid El Syifa stands on 1,500 square meters. It can accommodate 200 worshippers. The location is convenient, right on Jalan Moh. Kahfi 1.

Masjid El Syifa is more than a building. It represents a shift in thinking. It demonstrates a commitment to inclusivity. This Jakarta mosque sets an example for others to follow. Here, everyone can worship with dignity and ease.
