Ever wondered about the story behind this seemingly ordinary mosque? This is Masjid Baitussolihin. It holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Jakarta. Today we will uncover its hidden stories.

Masjid Baitussolihin stands not just as a place of worship but also as a testament to the spirit and resilience of the community. Its history is intertwined with the struggles and triumphs of the local people. It reflects their dedication to their faith.

Originally, Masjid Baitussolihin started as a humble prayer room in 1925. K.H. Marid, a respected local scholar, initiated its construction. This small mushala became a vital gathering point for the Kramat Watu community. They united here. They planned their resistance against the remaining colonizers in the Banten region.

Located on a major highway near Kramat Market, Masjid Baitussolihin quickly became a popular stop for travelers. Especially after the War of Independence, tourists visiting Karang Bolong Beach often rested here. Karang Bolong Beach was formed by the eruption of Mount Krakatau.

As Banten developed and tourism increased, Masjid Baitussolihin faced a challenge. It needed to accommodate a growing number of worshippers. On Sundays and holidays, the mosque was especially crowded. In 1992, a significant decision was made. The community decided to completely renovate and expand Masjid Baitussolihin. H. Syahruddin, a member of the mosque’s construction committee, explained that the goal was to increase the capacity from a few hundred to thousands of worshippers.

The renovation was primarily funded by the local community of Kramat Watu. It cost approximately Rp700 million. H. Syahruddin emphasized that the renovation aimed to enhance spiritual development. It sought to unite the community in their devotion to Allah SWT. It was also about preserving Banten’s reputation as a deeply religious area.

After two years of dedicated work, Masjid Baitussolihin was officially inaugurated on September 3, 1994. The Deputy Governor of West Java, H.M. Sampoerna, presided over the ceremony.

Even today Masjid Baitussolihin provides a resting place for Muslim travelers from afar. The mosque also hosts regular recitations and religious studies. The sounds of women and children chanting blessings fill the air. This creates a vibrant and lively atmosphere. It extends into the nearby Kramat Watu Market.

Masjid Baitussolihin reflects a blend of history, community spirit, and religious devotion. It is a vital landmark in Kramat Watu. It reminds us of the enduring power of faith and unity. Next time you pass by, remember the journey of this mosque. Remember its role in shaping the community.
