Beyond Jakarta’s vibrant tapestry lies Masjid Baitul Karim, a mosque pulsating with life, especially during Ramadan. Imagine the scene: the clock strikes 1:30 am. Security guard Saddam Husein diligently opens the gates to the Pusat Dakwah Hidayatullah complex, preparing for the influx of worshippers arriving for qiyamullail prayers at Masjid Baitul Karim. He meticulously arranges the parking, ensuring a smooth flow for the motorcycles, cars, and even bicycles that fill the area. The mosque becomes a beacon, drawing people on foot, all seeking the blessings of lailatul qadar during the last ten days of Ramadan. Masjid Baitul Karim provides solace and comfort for the devout. One worshipper, Muhamad Ibnu Sina, praised the mosque’s tranquil atmosphere, cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and ample supply of Qurans. The mosque also boasts a newly renovated space for women, ensuring a safe and comfortable prayer experience while remaining connected to the main congregation through video conferencing. Unlike many mosques that see dwindling numbers towards the end of Ramadan, Masjid Baitul Karim remains a vibrant hub. Located on Jalan Cipinang Cempedak, the mosque draws a diverse crowd from the surrounding areas, including Cipinang Cempedak, Kebun Nanas, the Arab community, market traders, and even local employees. The mosque offers a full schedule of spiritual nourishment. Throughout Ramadan, Masjid Baitul Karim hosts nightly Tarawih prayers and recitations of one juz of the Quran. For the first twenty days, Tahajjud prayers are led by Ust. Muhammad Yusri Ramadhon Al Zami Al-Hafizh (Ustadz Azzam). The mosque’s dedication extends beyond spiritual needs. It provides iftar and suhoor meals, thanks to the generosity of donors who ensure a plentiful supply of food and drink. The mosque also hosts regular kajian (Islamic study sessions) featuring both internal and external speakers. These sessions offer valuable insights into Ramadan practices and various Islamic themes. After Tarawih prayers, seven-minute lectures (kultum) provide concise yet enriching knowledge. During the last ten days, these sessions shift to after Asr prayers. Before dawn breaks, the mosque holds tahsin al Quran sessions, where Ust. Muhammad Yusri Ramadhon Al Zami guides attendees through two verses at a time, correcting their recitation. Masjid Baitul Karim operates around the clock throughout Ramadan. The lights and AC remain on as worshippers engage in continuous tadarus (Quran recitation). The mosque partners with Baitul Maal Hidayatullah (BMH) to facilitate the collection of zakat fitrah, zakat maal, fidyah, infak, shadaqah, and wakaf. Dedicated staff are available to assist with these charitable contributions. The mosque’s management committee, led by Ust. Aghis Mahruri, remains committed to enhancing services. Their goal is to make Masjid Baitul Karim a place where people can easily learn and worship. They also organize daily reflections 15 minutes before iftar to encourage worshippers to maximize their ibadah, prayers, and Quran recitation during the holy month.
