Have you noticed the imposing structure within the Bank Indonesia complex? That is Masjid Baitul Ihsan BI. It is more than just a place of worship. It is a landmark reflecting the power and grandeur of Bank Indonesia.
Baitul Ihsan presents itself like most mosques. It has a dome and a minaret. These serve as prominent landmarks. Its robust exterior design exudes magnificence. The mosque appears integrated with Bank Indonesia. The bank building also conveys an impression of invincibility.
The design of Baitul Ihsan stems from a simple foundation. It has a perfect rectangle with a semicircle vertically toward the dome. One can enter the Masjid Baitul Ihsan from every direction except towards the Qibla. This openness reflects that the house of Allah can be used by all people.
Its exterior is predominantly gray. Marble materials create an exclusive impression. Vertical lines accentuate the design. These signify the relationship between humans and their Creator. Horizontal lines reflect the equal relationships among people.
The front door is special. It features bronze leaves adorned with plant motifs. The word Allah is inscribed on the upper right. The word Muhammad appears on the left. Openwork walls surround the entrance. The upper part has an arch shape to reflect a transparent entrance gate.
The most visually dominant feature of the mosque is its dome. Ceramic tiles cover the dome. Geometric ornaments in blue and cream decorate it. These create a strong accentual element.
Inside, behind the main room is a plaza. A corridor circles the plaza. It provides access to the basement floor. The basement contains functional rooms and ablution areas.
The main prayer area consists of two floors. The ground floor serves as the mosque’s main floor. It is used for prayer and measures 1,087 square meters. The mezzanine floor surrounds the upper part of the main prayer hall. It measures 596 square meters.
Connecting beams tie the four main columns together. These support the dome roof. Islamic ornaments adorn the connecting beams. Carvings of Surah An-Nuur verse 35 and Asma’ul Husna embellish the base of the dome.
The dome-shaped roof mirrors the celestial sphere. It represents the universe created by Allah. Natural light enters through windows. This symbolizes the “Nur” that illuminates the prayer space. It means that humans prostrate seeking guidance from the Creator.
The main room appears magnificent. Gray ceramics dominate the floors and walls. Air conditioning enhances the grandeur. It ensures comfort inside the Masjid Baitul Ihsan.
Baitul Ihsan means “a place for people who believe that every movement, step, and thought in life is always watched by Allah SWT.” This name reflects the integrity of Bank Indonesia’s leaders and employees. It emphasizes their dedication to performing their duties.
