A towering roof greets you. Welcome to Masjid Attaufiq. This isn’t just any mosque. It’s a testament to faith family and Indonesian architecture. Masjid Attaufiq stands proudly in Lenteng Agung Jakarta Selatan. It’s more than a place of worship. It’s a living memorial.
The story of Masjid Attaufiq begins with Megawati Soekarnoputri. She envisioned a mosque honoring her late husband Taufiq Kiemas. This wasn’t just a personal project. It was a gift to the community. The mosque was built on the site of the PDI Perjuangan party headquarters. Initially a school for party members it transformed into a much-needed mosque. Many members were Muslim. The existing prayer space was inadequate.
The construction began in December 2018. The groundbreaking ceremony took place in June 2018 five years after Taufiq Kiemas’s passing. The mosque was completed in July 2020. Its grand opening was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally President Joko Widodo officiated the opening in June 2022.
Masjid Attaufiq is a stunning example of Indonesian architecture. It blends traditional Nusantara elements with modern design. The towering roof is reminiscent of Minangkabau style. This is a fitting tribute to Kiemas’s Minangkabaub heritage. The mosque boasts intricate Islamic ornaments. These recite the 99 names of Allah Asmaul Husna.
The mosque’s design is based on the Hablum Minallah and Hablum Minannas philosophy. The first floor caters to human interaction. It houses ablution rooms toilets an auditorium and management offices. The auditorium hosts various events. It’s even rented out for weddings. It’s a space for everyone.
The second floor is dedicated to prayer. The soaring roof symbolizes the greatness of God. The prayer hall is beautifully designed. Filigree ornaments enhance both aesthetics and ventilation. Skylights provide natural light creating a dramatic atmosphere. The mihrab is a special feature. Its solid black material echoes the Black Stone in the Kaaba. At night the exterior lights create a unique and beautiful pattern.
